Tuning the Business Model - Developing Standards

The year started with Fraser Sampson, the author of the Police Manuals, joining the company as a shareholder. Fraser's role as consultant has been invaluable in not only developing DETAIL's standing within the Police environment but allowing development of the PASS Engine to external markets. Fraser's experience as the Superintendent in charge of the Examinations Unit at National Police Training, Harrogate has given him an insight and vision of where distance learning should be developed.

2002 saw us aligning our product range to various external quality assurance standards. These accreditation processes involved rigorous assessment of our provisions and products, including all our materials, tutorial support, publicity, contractual arrangements with learners and general administration procedures, each of which was measured against each awarding bodies benchmark standards. Having achieved these awards, Detail continue to be monitored by these bodies on a regular basis, being reassessed at least once every three years by each of them.

In July, DETAIL were invited to demonstrate their products at a Medical Examination Conference in Ottawa, Canada. The focus of the conference was MCQ examinations for doctors in Canada and North America. The organiser of the conference, Dr Ian Hart, is world renowned in the area of multiple choice examinations. Dr Hart has indicated that the software contained in PASS is revolutionary in its field.

November saw the beta-launch of PASS ONLINE. This extended the PASS Engine to allow it to run from Intranet's and from our web server. PASS ONLINE allows Police Forces and non-PC oriented customers to take advantage of PASS's facilities without necessarily having a PC system unit, providing a much more cost effective training solution to larger organisations.

In December we launched our Audio Products, featuring Fraser Sampson. These Audio CD's feature 4 hours of learning material specifically aligned to this years Blackstone Manuals. December also saw the first application of the PASS Engine to an external product. We used the engine to 'power' a series of Questions & Answer Books.
